Britney Spears Was Drugged Before Going on Stage at the VMAs

OK, I swear this is the last "why did Britney screw up the VMAs" article I ever write. And I mean EVER. But this news is hot – and it may very well be true, so humor me, and check it out. The latest possible explanation for Britney's drugged-out performance on Sunday night is that the Britster was, well, drugged-out. And while it didn't take a genius to figure out that those glazed eyes and "I don't give a damn" attitude might have been due to some alcohol intake, it sounds like there was more than frozen margaritas to account for it.

It seems that there was a whole backstage drama going on right before the former pop princess went on stage and made a fool of herself live (and when I say live, I mean the show was broadcast live, as she was very obviously lip-synching). And apparently it all started when Britney saw her hairdo for the evening and freaked out. But I say that's wrong – it all started when she arrived late for rehearsals and had quite a lot to drink before the show.

But those are just details. An MTV source stated for The Sun: "The scene in the dressing room before the show was one of absolute blind panic. She knew she hadn't rehearsed enough and was going to mess up the whole show and possibly her career – then she saw her hairdo and it was the final straw. She went into a wild rage and started lashing out at everyone – including her stylist".

What happened next was that the people at the Las Vegas Palms Casino resort got so scared that they called a doctor, who gave Britney some prescription drugs. Desperate to calm down, "Britney took enough to floor an elephant. They calmed her down – but were clearly too effective" says the same source.

So, before the performance, Britney had been drinking, was panicking and was given prescription drugs. It almost makes me feel sorry for her – the pressure she was under definitely got the better of her. And I hate to sound like Simon Cowell, but I think that the MTV people should not have allowed her on stage in that condition. These revelations do seem to bring the "MTV used Britney" conspiracy theory to a whole new level – which doesn't excuse Bit Brit completely, but does make her a victim, up to a point at least. Poor thing.
