Nicole Is Slick, Will Beat the System

Nicole Richie has been sentenced to five days in the slammer for her second DUI bust over a short period of time. While you try to soak in the sad reality behind her sentence (I mean five entire days!), you should know that she did not get any kind of special treatment. No, not at all! Not even when the judge shortened her sentence to four days because she had already spent a couple of hours in police custody when she got busted. Or when she was told that she can choose whether she will complete the sentence in a county jail or a 'nicer' facility, reserved especially for stars.

Ever since the verdict was given, which happened over the weekend, Nicole announced that she was four months pregnant with Joel Madden's baby and expressed remorse and what seemed like the first signs of maturity in what concerned her arrest. Hearing Nicole Richie (who has always been daddy's little girl) say that she has a responsibility and that she knows that she must make amends for her mistake (thus, the guilty plea she entered a while ago) definitely made many believe that she was on the right path.

Of course, it was all probably just a publicity stunt meant to bring her back into the good graces of the public. Or maybe she really is sorry for getting behind the wheel after smoking pot and taking sedatives, but she just doesn't want to sit in jail for the extent of four days. Who knows? The point is, Nicole finally decided where she will serve her sentence and the place to be is Lynwood, Paris Hilton's residence for 23 glorious days.

You see, had Nicole went for the 'nicer' facility, she would have had to remain there until completion, without having the possibility to walk out one minute earlier. By opting for a county jail, she stands very good chances of actually walking out of it only hours after setting foot in it, for various reasons: good behavior, overcrowding and the fact that she's pregnant. So, in short, Nicole could go into Lynwood and come out only three hours later, to the delight of the media that will certainly give her the same 'Welcome back, Paris Hilton' treatment.

Who knew? Nicole Richie is really slick and my money is that she will eventually beat this darned system that makes people whose only mistake is driving up the wrong lane (because of some stupid marijuana and Vicodin) go to jail for four days! How is life fair?
