Gwen Forced to Put Clothes ON?

We all know Gwen Stefani is not exactly a fan of traditional outfits, especially when it comes to her concerts. In fact, she's been known to hit the stage in some pretty crazy styles at times, donning costumes that most often leave little to the imagination. So imagine our surprise to learn dear old Gwen had to make some unexpected adjustments to her stage wardrobe lately, which did not consist of taking anything off – on the contrary, it meant she had to put more stuff ON. Damn.

Gwen Stefani is doing a world tour promoting her latest album, Sweet Escape. And with such destinations as Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand on the list, she came up against some pretty unexpected objections. Like that fact that the fundamentalist Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party came up with a memo against Gwen's concert in Kuala Lumpur due to the fact that it would promote promiscuity and worsen an existing "teenage social problem. The issue is that Gwen Stefani brings with her a bad image. The way she dances, the way she dresses — it's not proper. When our teenagers see this, it will induce them to behave improperly" a Malay state official commented.

And so, to our complete shock (and I have to admit I really do admire Gwen for taking so much trouble – but in the end, it's her album) Gwen totally conformed to what was being asked of her and went by the local rules, which state that "a female artist needs to cover from the top of her chest to her knees including shoulders. No jumping, shouting or throwing of objects on stage or at the audience is allowed. Performers can also not hug or kiss and their clothes must not have obscene or drug-related images or messages". Kinda tricky, especially the "covered up to her shoulders and down to her knees" part, but as you can see in the photos, Gwen managed it.

It doesn't mean that the Kuala Lumpur Concert was any less spectacular that we expected it to be – Gwen totally rocked the stage, and put on a new outfit for every song, only she banned everything that exposed her bare skin, wore jackets over the tight tops, leggings under the short skirts and gloves to hide her bare arms. And it worked out just fine, allowing the singer to "escape" without a fine, like it happened at a recent concert that The Pussycat Dolls had in the same location. Good girl, Gwen.
