Why It Sucks to Be Homeless: Number 1, Supermodels Eat Your Food

Screw the homeless and bring on the free publicity! British posh restaurant Bumpkin has launched a very interesting initiative in what concerns the pressing issue of size 0 models. The controversy has plagued the fashion world for many months now, with many saying that it is in fact that industry that encourages girls to starve themselves to fit the standards.

Designers claim it is not their fault that models are anorexic and skinny, fashion promoters say that they work with what they got, models blame it on their parents and the public demand. It's a no-win situation and it is exactly this that prolonged this debate for so long. But Bumpkin does not take sides: it comes up with a solution and it aims to solve this problem once and for all.

You see, models are skinny and anorexic (and sometimes they even die from complications) not because of X and Y reason, but because food is too expensive and they can't afford to pay for it. It's as simple as that! A girl who gets paid an average of $5,000 per day to stand upright and smile (in rare cases) to the camera, or who is occasionally asked to perform the superhuman task of walking a platform up and down, in front of other people, can't afford to pay for, say, a cheeseburger. Given that said snack is now evaluated at around $500... who would? Right?

That is why Bumpkin chose to do the right thing for these poor little girls. Any model who enters the restaurant has only to prove that her Body Mass Index is 18 or below, flash her model badge (yes, they do have that!) that says she is a size 0 and she can have anything on the menu... for free! Soon, gone will be the days when she used to sit at a table in a restaurant and just stare at her plate or at her reflection in the silver cutlery because the money was too scarce!

I know, this is no joking matter. Size 0 models are something troubling and disturbing but this is not the way to solve the problem, when others more stressing are at hand. These girls are sick and they need help, but at least they have a paying job and they have enough money to pay for their own food. The fact that they don't is entirely of their own will. Not the same can be said about, for instance, homeless people. But this is far too complicated and complex a matter to be addressed now. Suffice it to say that, right now in Britain, it kinda sucks to be homeless.
