Madonna Opens Up About Adopting David

As promised, Madonna came out of her seclusion and talked to Oprah Winfrey about the madness her recent trip to Malawi led to. After she adopted the one-year-old David and he was flown to her London house, the boy's real father began telling the press that he was not properly informed about the procedure and that - in other words - he was not aware that he would have his son taken from him for good.

From that to the papers implying that Madonna paid good money to get the Malawian boy - who was at the time of her visit living in an orphanage and was suffering from pneumonia - was just a small step. Besides the tabloids and the newspapers, many charitable organizations and child care groups claimed that the singer and her husband Guy skipped the standard procedures and had the boy's father fooled.

Madonna refused to make any statement, saying that she would clear all those misunderstandings in an interview with Oprah. It was taken, as promised, yesterday and the singer addressed all the hot questions that have been circulating in the press for some time now.

As expected, the singer said that she was not yet granted permanent adoption, but an interim one, which implies that she, Guy and David are to be monitored for the following 18 months and only afterwards be granted permanent rights over the child. In no way did she take the boy without his father's permission: all was explained to him and he understood each step that has to be taken; it's the media's fault that things got so blown out of proportions.

'I looked into that man's eyes... I believe at this point in time, he's been terrorized by the media. They have asked him things, repeatedly, and they have put words in his mouth. They have spun a story that is completely false. I understand that gossip and telling negative stories sells newspapers. But I think, for me, I'm disappointed because it discourages other people from doing the same thing. I feel like the media is doing a great disservice to all the orphans of Africa, period, not just Malawi, by turning it into such a negative thing', Madonna said.

On a brighter side, the singer and her family are more than happy with the new member of their family. According to her, both her children (Lourdes and Rocco) and Guy are ecstatic about David and the thought of being able to offer him a better life makes the media ordeal worth enduring.
