Jackie Guerrido

Jackie Guerrido was born on September 24, 1970, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and was raised in the island's capital of San Juan. She and her family relocated to the Bronx, New York City, following her graduation from high school. There, she began her career in modeling with appearances in television and print ads for clothing and drink companies.

In addition to being seen in commercials that promoted various products, Guerrido also secured some voice-over work. A local radio producer happened to hear her voice over the airwaves, and liked what he heard enough to hire the budding broadcaster for a morning program. The show, El Vacilon de la Manana (Goofing Around in the Morning), was featured on radio station La Mega 97.9 -- one of the top-rated programs in the New York City area.

Not long after her debut on radio, she received an offer from the Spanish Broadcasting Corporation to become an announcer at Miami's Romance 106.7 FM. It was an offer she couldn't refuse, and she left the Big Apple for Florida. About a year into her Romance FM gig, Guerrido was hired by the Hispanic Broadcasting Company -- the No. 1 Spanish-language radio network. There, she handled traffic reports and read the news for their top-rated morning program. Not long after starting with the HBC, Guerrido was given her own music-oriented morning program on Salsa 98.3 FM.

Shortly after she was hired to host her own radio show, Guerrido landed her first regular job in television, reporting the traffic and entertainment news for Telemundo's Channel 51. The following year, despite her lack of experience as a weatherperson, Univision hired Guerrido in that capacity.

In order to get a better handle on the subject, she enrolled herself in a meteorology course at the local University of Florida. She began forecasting the weather on Channel 23, Univision's Miami affiliate, for their morning newscasts, Al Amanacer de Noticas 23 and A la Moda con el 23.

In 2003, Guerrido landed a gig as weather girl on one of the U.S. Hispanic community's most-viewed TV shows, Despierta America (Wake-Up America). That same year, she also earned the opportunity to take on other types of broadcasting roles beyond weather and traffic duties when she became the cohost of Primer Impacto (First Impact) with Barbara Bermudo. Her profile increased beyond her regular media resume when she was selected as Good Will Ambassador of New York City's Puerto Rican Day Parade in 2004.
